100th Statue in the Batman Black and White Collection to be Unveiled at SDCC

If you're a collector, like statues, or love Batman, you're in for a treat. As the headline goes, Warner Bros. Products and the always great DC Collectibles will be unveiling the 100th Statue in the Batman Black and White Collection at San Diego Comic Con. This is to celebrate Batman's 80th Anniversary.

If that wasn't enough to get you excited the over 6 ft. life-size statue is designed by the one and only Todd McFarlane. I'm not going to be at SDCC, but I'm excited for this.

The rest of the press release states:

BURBANK, Calif. - (July 16, 2019) - In celebration of the 80th anniversary, Warner Bros. Consumer Products and DC Collectibles announced today that the 100th Batman Black and White statue in the popular ongoing DC Collectibles line will be unveiled at the forthcoming San Diego Comic-Con Museum on July 17. A special over 6-foot life-size version of the Todd McFarlane-designed statue will be revealed during a special ceremony recognizing DC’s iconic Super Hero, Batman, the inaugural inductee into the Comic-Con Museum Hall of Fame.

The milestone #100 statue is based off McFarlane’s own cover of Batman issue #423. As with the previous 99 in the series, McFarlane’s design, reinforces the core value of DC Collectibles to represent the printed page in 3D form and pays homage to Batman’s rich legacy.

Guests of the Museum will also have the rare opportunity to see the current 100-statue series throughout the week as part of The Batman Experience Powered by AT&T at the Comic-Con Museum in Balboa Park. Not only will #100 be revealed with its special life-size version, but #99 by Doug Mahnke will be making its first public appearance.

Following the Comic-Con Museum launch event titled, “The Gathering” which will feature a “black carpet reception,” the life-size #100 Black & White statue will be auctioned off with proceeds benefiting the Comic-Con Museum.

“To simply be a part of the 80th anniversary of a character that has always held such a special place in my heart is an honor,” McFarlane said. “But in designing this statue I truly feel like I’m adding to Batman’s legacy and in the process benefiting a hall of fame that will become an institution both for comic fans and the San Diego community.”

DC Collectibles will give fans even more super-sized experiences and opportunities during Comic-Con week with:
  •  DC Collectibles will hold its annual panel, moderated by Samm Levine, in Room 9 on July 18 from 10:00-11:00 a.m. PT. From limited edition statues and action figures to prop replicas, busts, and vinyls fans can join the DC Collectibles crew to hear the latest exclusive news about what’s coming and how each designer turns their amazing ideas into fan-favorite items.
  • DC Collectibles will once again highlight new and never before seen sculpts and figures on the Comic Con floor this year in the all new DC and WB mega booth #4545. A few of the notable items to be displayed will include:

I Survived SDCC and All I Got Is This Giveaway!

Stellar view from the
convention center
Hi kiddies!  I'm back from my worldwide traveling, which of course included that lovely week in sunny San Diego.  Just a side note, going to San Diego from the humidity-filled hell that is New York City is amazing wonderful.  Like escaping the Rancor only to find yourself in a library stocked with all the books.....and Benedict Cumberbatch is your manservant.  Just mull it over, you'll thank me later.

SDCC Booth Tour of Awesome

QUANTUM MECHANIX BOOTH!

Yes, I got a booth tour of Quantum Mechanix to see what's coming up on their roster.  These girls and guys are true fans, and it shows in the painstaking details in their work.  Some of these models look like they plucked them right off the screen!

Check out some of the things that will be draining your bank account soon.

So Say We All
They debuted plushie BSG Raiders and Vipers at SDCC!  I really regret not buying these but I bet my roommate is happy I'm not "flying" them around the apartment, making ship noises.

SDCC '12: Thursday Recap

I'm actually writing this early Friday morning on line to get into Ballroom 20. Yesterday was a whirlwind of waiting on lines and putting faces to names.

We started off the day checking out the Batmobiles. All of them. It was very awesome. The owner was there, and he showed me a pic of a Keaton-era Batmobile limo. That exists. I will now make it my mission to ride in it.

After that, Getsuyobi wandered the floor and took pics of cosplayers while I went off to finally meet Bryan Young in person. Yup, our favorite writer is a real person! It's one of the best parts of con, getting to meet people that you have chatted with online.

Then, I went over to the San Diego Blood Drive. If you ever get a chance, please give blood. It's a worthy deed. However, my time was exceptionally busy, so it took me two hours to finish draining.

After that, Getsuyobi and I went around town for a bit, checking out all of the popup stores. In case you haven't been to SDCC, not all the action happens in the convention center. Plenty of companies have popup locations available to everyone. We hit up the Magic The Gathering store for some variant art cards, then went to the Yahoo Movieland for pics related to Expendables 2, Paranorman, and Total Recall. While on line there (lines being a general theme), we heard about free AMD processors being given away a few blocks up. We decided to check it out and randomly found it at the Geek & Sundry HQ! Best part is yours truly got the very last spot for their autograph signing! Woohoo! Got a small hug from Felicia Day and a pic and some FaceTime with Sandeep, who I'm mildly obsessed with. And of course, a fee AMD processor from AMD.

If our day ended there, it would be complete but after a quick ice cream break, it was off to w00tstock 4.0!!!! Now the offical recap will follow with lots of juicy goodness about the 270 minutes we spent there but I will give this. Levar Burton on stage singing the Reading Rainbow theme song with Wil Wheaton as a backup singer.

Will our plucky reporters make it into Ballroom 20 for panels? Will they get coffee? Stay tuned to twitter for minute to minute updates! Until tomorrow, Wilderowens signing off!

SDCC '12: Preview Night Recap

It's been a long day filled with comic-filled booths, fun freebies and lots of waiting.  In case you don't about Preview Night at SDCC, it is a chance for a few fans to raid the floor and check out all of the booths before it gets so crowded you can't walk.  [IGH] Tip: Always get the ticket for Preview Night.

However, we started off the day kinda slow.  Getsuyobi and I, still on east coast time, woke up and got breakfast before taking a walk around the downtown area.  There are a lot of awesome pop-up stores that are going to be open tomorrow.  Then we headed over to the convention center to wait to get in.  Yeah, that was 10 am.  We made it to the floor about 5:45 pm.  The waiting was kinda like waiting, nothing special.  I did go over and visit the Hall H crowd.  There were people there that started camping on Sunday.  Dedication.

This was it for about 7 hours.
Once we got to the floor, Getsuyobi went off to take pics, while I went hunting for exclusives.  My first stop was the Mattel booth for a Mystery Machine and then to the Archana booth for a Tesla GN.  (BTW, Happy Belated Birthday Nikola!)

I needed this.

After that, I hung out with the crew at Dark Horse and got some autographs from the Orchid creative team of Tom Morello and Scott Hepburn.  Very awesome.  I also got some freebies and a pic of myself getting harnessed at the Falling Skies booth.  Can't wait to see that on their site!  Some other highlights were playing Castle Crashers on an arcade machine and Cat Grab at the Adult Swim booth.

Yeah, that's me getting ready for Cat Grab.

It was a fun night and we are so ready for tomorrow.  Can't wait to start panels and see friends!  Stay tuned for more fun from SDCC!

Sunday Links for January 8th

We started the new year on a sad note.  In the past week, we lost Bob Anderson, an Olympic fencer and movie swordsman.  We knew him best swinging a lightsaber as Darth Vader in "The Empire Strikes Back" and "Return of the Jedi."  We also lost Richard Alf, one of the founders of San Diego Comic Con.  Alf was an early benefactor of SDCC, and is a huge reason it is what it is today.  You will both be missed.
(via Huffington Post and The Beat)

This week also brought the disturbing news that there is an upcoming Twilight musical.  While it seems it will be a sarcastic parody, it still saddens me.  Hopefully the Star Alliance can put an end to it......
(via Entertainment Weekly)

For everyone getting as obsessed with Skyrim as I am, check out this fan-made Monopoly board.  It is a great backup in case the power goes out.
(via Geekologie)

With 2012 just beginning, iFanboy has some very, erm, interesting predictions for the new year.  Let us know your predictions for 2012!

Until next week.....

Sunday Links for July 10

This was a wacky week with the release of San Diego Comic Con programming schedules.  So, that means that the majority of news is that the programming schedules are being released.  Here are some other tidbits that you might have missed....

This week is really the beginning of the end with the final film installment of the Harry Potter series.  I hope you got tickets because over 2,000 screenings have already sold out, making it Fandango's "fastest-selling title of the year so far."

Rumors are flying that the Playstation 4 will debut in 2012.  This new system will be upgraded with motion technology similar to kinect.  Hopefully, the one feature they leave behind is the crazy high price.
(via Mashable)

With all of the media overload, it is nice to look back and see what made you a fan.  JR Pepper of Pink Raygun does just that in this sweet article.

Paramount has set up their very own animation studio.  With a new studio in house, Dreamworks Animation is being kicked to the curb.

On the creepy newsfeed, this guy installed spyware on random computers in Apple Stores to take pictures of people for his art project.  Apple found out and the Secret Service shut him down.  I really hope he doesn't have a picture of me drooling over a laptop.

Sunday Links for May 29

This week, we celebrated Geek Pride Day and the 100th Birthday of the New York Public Library.  Even if you haven't been to the NYPL, you still know those iconic lions.  (via [insertgeekhere] and Mental Floss)

In crazy spoiler news, if you are interested in The Amazing Spider-Man, check out this clip from Stan Lee about his cameo in the newest flick.  Like I said, Villain Spoiler Alert!  (via Bleeding Cool)

My favorite thing about geeks is how enterprising we are.  If we want something that doesn't exist, we do our best to create it.  So this week brought the news of a new con hitting the circuit - Power-Con / Thundercon 2011.  This is a joint con for Masters of the Universe and Thundercats fans.  Hello my childhood!  (via Robot 6)

As San Diego Comic Con gets closer and closer, we get to see how desperate fans get for tickets.  It brings a whole new perspective to the event.  What would you do for SDCC tickets?  (via Bleeding Cool)

If you need a laugh, go and check out Geek to Me's twitter feed because he has started a new hastag about the Most Interesting Geek in the World.  It's some funny stuff.  (via Geek to Me)

Finally, we want to just say thank you to all of the service men and women that have protected our country with their lives.  Have a great Memorial Day weekend.

Sunday Links for May 23

The Dark Knight Rises released a really, really creeping chanting on their homepage this week.  Some fans went the distance though and cracked the code.  Did you figure it out or cheat like me?  (via Mashable)

In San Diego Comic Con buzz this week, a group of comics writers and artists decided to create a free-entry creative experience for con goers.  Trickster will provide a commercial opportunity for creators and fans to communicate as well as a nightclub spot for relaxation.  This seems like a great idea and makes me even sadder that I'm not going.  (via Comics Alliance)

With all of the sellout announcements recently, how does that really affects the comic creators?  Jason Wood breaks it down and shows how it impacts the creators, local comic shops and fans.  (via iFanboy)

In a rant after my own heart, Amy Ratcliffe wrote a great piece about the misspellings of Star Wars.  Everyone should read this!!! (via geek with curves)

In case you need a new computer or just want one, now is the time to go PC shopping.  With every new Microsoft PC, you get a free Xbox 360.  That's an awesome deal if you ask me.  (via Mashable)

Sunday Links

Another week, another set of craziness!

This past week, we watched with the world as Egypt revolted against their president. Luckily, despite an internet ban, we could follow reports on twitter. GeekGirlDiva wrote a great and touching piece about her perspective of the events we have been witnessing.

Marvel asked us, "Who are the Mystery Men?" No, Ben Stiller isn't back with his infinite rage, it is a new comic series. No details have been released but Newsarama has a pretty good theory. In other Marvel news, their Point One initative started this week with The Invincible Iron Man. You can check out our review here.

DC Comics announced collaboration with The Heroes Initiative on a series of 100 original and unique Justice League of America #50 covers. These will be auctioned off with proceeds supporting The Heroes Initiative's great work. Three covers have been released and you check them out here.

There has been ticket sale mania this week, with San Diego Comic Con tickets selling out yesterday, but still plagued with troubles. New York Comic Con announced that they are adding a 4th day and their tickets are going on sale tomorrow. Which cons are on your schedule this year?

To end this week's recap, here is the commercial that has taken the geek world by storm this week.

Gung Hay Fat Choy!

My Epic Con Fails

@Wilderowens here with a little insanity break.  I have been reading all of the NYCC reviews and recaps about other people's experiences.  Everyone loves to talk about all of the awesome people we meet or the cool stuff we do at cons. Well, sometimes it isn't always so easy or fun for us. I personally can think of 5 things I wish I could do over at New York Comic and San Diego Comic Con.  Please join me in lamenting over my Epic Con Fails:

5 - At my first NYCC, I thought I was so prepared.  I had just made it into the Chronicles of Narnia panel and thought I had figured out all of the good stuff to do that day. I was so excited until I learned that I missed out on a easy to get into Seth Green signing. I had mistakely thought it was later in the day. The panel wasn't even that good.

4 - At this year's NYCC, I had a guaranteed Frank Miller bracelet for his signing. I thought that was so awesome considering that they are so hard to get.  Except I couldn't find the person who had it for me in time.

3 - At my second NYCC, I had my research done (I learned from my mistakes), and had everything I needed when I walked into the Javits Center....except my ticket.

2 - At this years SDCC, I had another chance to meet Seth Green. I waited on line for two hours to   meet him and was second in line. As you now know from above, I had been dying to meet him for years. Now I had my chance. Seth Green is a classy guy.... I'm not so classy. I was so tired at this point and so driven to get this autograph (since this really was years in the making!) that I kinda went crazy. I had given my camera to someone for a pic and they asked if we were ready. I said loudly, "Let's take a pic!" and proceeded to grab Seth Green and put my arm around him. I even pressed my cheek against his. When I walked away and began to calm down, I realized how crazy I was acting.  I even considered going back to apologize, but that probably would have made it even worse.  Now this isn't the first time I have met or even worked professionally with a celebrity, but this was the first and only time I lost control.

1 - At this year's SDCC, I made it to the Eureka screening, and sat through a weird Klingon play just to get in the second row. All for a good pic of Wil Wheaton. My friend, who didn't come, and I are both harboring huge crushes on him. Wil speaks and then sits down, right in front of me! I have brilliant plan of having him hold up a sign I wrote saying hi to my friend while I take a picture. I quickly write out a sign, turn on my camera and go up to him right before the screening starts to ask. For the record, Wil Wheaton is awesome. He says yes and holds up the sign. I step back to take the picture, my camera shuts down right then, the lights dim and his handler says "You have to return to your seat." Wil Wheaton hands me back the sign and says sorry. I had thought I might have a shot after the screening but he left early. That sucked so much, I thought I would die. I hate my camera.

After writing this, I am torn between laughing and crying at my exploits.  Please share some of your embarrassing experiences too so I don't feel so lonely!
