NYCC '12 Day Three Highlights

Day three started in the best way possible - meeting with Bruce Timm and Andrea Romano for roundtable interviews about The Dark Knight Returns Part 2. From there I raced into the The Dark Knight panel and the audience was treated to a fantastic Q & A. We were shown clips from TDKR Pt. 2 and a new movie slated to come out next spring. I tried to go up to the floor, but could barely move around. The crowd was insane, so I said hi to a friend who was working at a booth and ran back downstairs. 

I jumped into the King of Nerds panel featuring the stars of Revenge of the Nerds franchise, Curtis Armstrong (Booger) and Robert Carradine (Lewis). There were nerd debates and jeopardy, and they gave away fun prizes. 

Next, came the Fables 10th Anniversary panel. What a treat! While we were waiting for it to begin, Bill Willingham was telling awful, corny jokes and keeping us entertained. Prizes were given, questions were answered, and laughs were had by all. 

After that, I wandered around for a bit, met up with some other friends, and finally started to explore Artist's Alley, where I got to talk to Sanford Greene. There I met up with Wilderowens, and we went to the Geek Girls Network Geek Out, where we hung out with old friends, met some new ones, and had a fantastic time.

Wilderowens finally had a mellow day, wandering the floor for a bit. She hung out with Cully Hamner and Josh Fialkov at the DC booth. While she didn't get her interview with Joel Hodgson of MST3K, (but will via email!!!) she did get to chat with Fred Chao, the creator of Johnny Hiro!!

A Look Back at 2011

As I read all of the 2011 recap posts, I thought back through my highlights of 2011.  All of my major geek highlights are because of you, and [insertgeekhere].  And while the big news items of 2011 are important, I wanted to share with you my own personal highlights.

In the past year, [insertgeekhere] has grown by leaps and bounds.  Our family has grown by hundreds, and I just want to say welcome to all of our new fans.  I am so thankful that you are supporting us.  Our best addition has to be Teacup, a new contributor we met at NYCC.  In the new year, expect to see many more great posts from her.

I never thought that the blog would bring so much into my life, but this year proved me wrong.  In the past year, I have met more comic writers, artists, and editors than I ever thought I would.  Interviewing people like Scott Allie, Brian Wood and Becky Cloonan, and John Ostrander has made me feel much cooler than I am.  The best people I have met though are the other bloggers and fans.  I have made more friends around the world than I ever thought possible.

Looking back at 2011 makes me excited to see what 2012 brings for us.  I can't wait to see what insanity Wysefyre and I stumble into, because I know it will be fabulous.

Sunday Links for July 31

The big scandal of the week is DC Comics' lack of female creators in the New 52. It came down to a lot of angry fans that DC's Co-Publisher Dan Didio just snapped back at a crowd. Artist Rebekah Isaacs came out with her opinion about the situation, and defended DC. Comics Alliance has a response to Didio's actions but then Didio and Jim Lee came out and said they want and will employ more females in the future.

Sit down and brace yourself: Kick-Ass 2 will be coming out on a regular schedule! Maybe Millar and Romita read my rant about it. In the end, I'll believe it when it's in my hands.

Marvel has restarted their Comics for Comics program. If retailers send in DC Flashpoint covers, they get a sweet looking Marvel variant. I kinda feel bad for those poor Flashpoints.
