In reboot news, a director has been procured to do a new live-action Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.  My heart is torn between excitement and fear with how Jonathan Liebesman will handle my precious turtles.  Only time will tell.....

Comic Book Men premiered this week with "meh" and "blah" reviews.  Personally, I was bored during the five minutes I watched but others stuck through the hour and were offended more than bored.  Did anyone out there like this show?

It was announced that the popular studio Pizza Island ended this week.  The studio, filled with indie female comic creators, let their lease lapse since so many of them were moving onto new things.  Pizza Island will always be remembered as an awesomely creative space.

The Watchmen prequels were officially announced this week, to much dismay by readers.  You can't go onto almost any site without complaints.  Still, not all prequels turn out bad....

Non-Player, one of the biggest premieres of 2011, is being made into a movie!  Surprising, since we haven't even gotten issue 2.  I guess that means the script going forward is amazingly good.

We had a scare this week with the possible loss of The Simpsons. Fox gave us two more years of fun in Springfield though, despite cutting the salaries of the cast and producers. Hopefully, they will give us a Simpsons-worthy finish.

New York Comic Con released their programming this week, to my dismay. The Walking Dead panel is at the same time as The Avengers panel! The Felicia Day panel is the same time as the Husbands/Jane Espenson panel! Too much awesome to pick between!!!! Oh, the humanity!

Wizard heartthrob Daniel Radcliffe may have put his foot in his mouth this week, with the release of some behind the scenes footage. In it, he insinuates that Harry Potter is superior to Star Wars and Star Trek because it started as literature and grew to the big screen. I kinda get what he is saying but I am not sure I agree.

Sunday Links for July 31

The big scandal of the week is DC Comics' lack of female creators in the New 52. It came down to a lot of angry fans that DC's Co-Publisher Dan Didio just snapped back at a crowd. Artist Rebekah Isaacs came out with her opinion about the situation, and defended DC. Comics Alliance has a response to Didio's actions but then Didio and Jim Lee came out and said they want and will employ more females in the future.

Sit down and brace yourself: Kick-Ass 2 will be coming out on a regular schedule! Maybe Millar and Romita read my rant about it. In the end, I'll believe it when it's in my hands.

Marvel has restarted their Comics for Comics program. If retailers send in DC Flashpoint covers, they get a sweet looking Marvel variant. I kinda feel bad for those poor Flashpoints.

Sunday Links for April 24

Welcome to the Spring Holiday edition of Sunday Links!


This week, humanity dodged a bullet because Skynet was supposed to begin the attack on April 21, 2011. Action Flick Chick was ready with a list of supplies to take on the machines, but we lucked out. Just in case, here is a list of other scifi dates that are supposed to bring the apocalypse.


Dark Horse's Digital release date is getting closer, and I am getting more and more excited. They released a list of the comics that are going to be available for download. Despite the fact that Buffy isn't on the list, I am still satisfied with what is available.


It was a sad week for Doctor Who fans with the passing of Elisabeth Sladen. She was the famed Sarah Jane Smith, partner to the Doctor for a time. Our thoughts are with her family.


Spider-Man: Turn Off The Dark shutdown this past week for a three-week overhaul to the script. Surprisingly and happily, Christopher Tierney, the badly injured acrobat/actor, is able to rejoin the show in time for its new reincarnation. Hopefully, things go better this time.


MTV Geek complied a great list of 10 Definitely Not Racist Comic Book Characters That Are Actually Totally Racist. Just really interesting to read and think about.

This week's had two huge comic news stories:

First off was the announcement that Wizard Magazine was no more. They closed their doors on their print magazine while they get ready to move to an digital format. Wizard seems to be concentrating completely on their convention circuit at this time. With the announcement came posts about sadness, remembering all the people that got their start at Wizard and some juicy gossip about the closing.

Next big story for the week was the highly talked about death of a member of the Fantastic Four! We covered it in full, including an obituary and the review of Fantastic Four #587. iFanboy also had a great article about how the media spoiled it for the world.

MTV Geek brought me some laughs this week with their very naughty article,

10 Comic Book Characters Who Aren't Actually Wearing Any Clothes.

Geek to Me featured Geek∙Lee∙Tist∙ on his blog, to talk about how cliquey the geek community has gotten. It is a truly powerful article that deserves attention from all of us.

DC announced their upcoming, rock the universe event, Flashpoint. It will be comprised of a lot of one-shots and minis over the entire universe but will be centered on the character, The Flash. The Beat has a great write up about the few details released here.

To end things on a fun note,@SyFy released this Sharktopus plushie pic on twitter in anticipation of the dvd release. While I haven't seen the film yet, I want one!
