As you may or may not know, [IGH] is based in New York City. We were scheduled for a giant, crazy, major storm this week. However, science happened and I was denied my chance to face plant myself into 3+ feet of snow. But because the city shut itself down, my day job followed suit and I got a snow day!!!
Glorious snow day! How I missed you from my childhood. I couldnt just squander this precious gift on TV and the Internet. Why do chores when I can reenact snow days of old? In order to take full advantage of this uninterrupted playtime, I broke out my Legos.
I got this set as an event giveaway earlier in the week. And first, I set it up as the box suggested. One must follow the instructions. Sadly, this took way longer than it should. I obviously need to build more sets.
After it was all set up, I enacted the whole scene so Superman fails and Lois takes Zod down herself. Why? Because it's my snow day. Then I proudly showed it off to my roommate, who continued to do whatever grownup thing she was doing. All of this was followed by playing in the small amount of snow we got because it's still snow.
So, the next snow day you might be lucky enough to get, don't feel pressured to do grown up things. That's for the everyday pressures of life. Instead, break out your toys, sit on the floor and play.

You must know by now how much I LOVE the Lego games. Any opportunity to ride around Gotham City in the Batmobile. And let's not forget about the previous Lego DC film projects. Now we can enjoy that world even more with the announcement of Warner Bros. Animations new's release, LEGO DC Comics Super Heroes: Justice League vs. Bizarro League! As per Warner Bros. press release:
Batman has joined the newly formed Justice League in order
to keep tabs on Superman, a mistrust that is complicated by
Superman's clumsy – but well-meaning – clone, Bizarro.
Bizarro's creation of the Bizarro League has caused confusion
amongst the world's greatest Super Heroes, but an even
greater and mysterious threat may force the Justice League
and Bizarro League to band together to defeat evil.
This sounds great! The film will be released on February 10, 2015 on BluRay, DVD and Digital Download. If you can't wait, watch the trailer below.
Last weekend, Wysefyre and I got the chance to see the most anticipated movie of February, The Lego Movie!! It's out in theaters on February 7th but I was just dying to share my thoughts about why you need to see this movie.
The story follows regular ol' minifig Emmett, who accidentally gets caught up in a prophecy to stop the evil Lord Business in his plot to destroy the universe! Along his journey, he meets a fun cast of new and old characters who help or hurt him in his quest.
Hitting the wall for gift ideas? Stuck with shopper's block? Well, we are here to help with some random gift ideas for every boy and girl. Every once and while, we will post one item that will probably fit one person on your list. Plus, we will personally approve all of the gifts we suggest! These are [IGH approved], so have no fear!
Credited to Marcos Minuchin and The Secret Life of Toys
While wandering around Union Square's Holiday fair, I found a gem in The Secret Life of Toys. The artist Marcos Minuchin creates a behind-the scenes look at toys, and he just makes me laugh. It is very Robot Chicken-esque in its style and humor. You can get these awesome works as a metal, canvas or high quality print for your wall. Albeit pricey for certain styles, these also make a great and unique gift for your geeky art friend.

My particular favorite, and the one I bought myself, is the Lego version of Magritte The Son of Man. It just gets me and my love of Legos. If that one isn't your speed, check out my second favorite I'm Your Father. Make sure you check out all of the fun works, and you will definitely cross a name off your gift buying list.

I hope you all had a Happy Halloween weekend before the big day tomorrow! Here are some of my favorite Halloween-y stories from the week:
To get you in the holiday spirit, read this very compelling academic theory that geeks created our modern Halloween.
(via Total Fan Girl)
Everyone is so worried about a zombie apocalypse or alien invasion that we are not even seeing the true enemy. The giant Lego invasion is underway!
(via Yahoo! Games)
With the #Occupy protests taking over the globe, everyone is getting involved. Even zombies are taking a side....

Check out these fantastic pumpkin carvings. I just love how detailed and creative they are!

Have a Happy Halloween, filled with plenty of scares and a full candy belly!
Until next week.....

Finally, the DCnU officially underway, so it is only appropriate that I include a little something from the most arguably controversial being to be rebooted, Barbara Gordon aka Oracle aka Batgirl. How great is Teal Sherer as Babs?
Happy Friday!!! Here's what's been floating around the web.
This has to be one of my all time favorite "celebrities doing awesomely funny things on tv" moments. Not only does Anne Hathaway prove she can rap but her "I can't believe I just did that" expression and blush makes the whole thing even better.
Finally, this shows us what people are really thinking when dealing with others in the game of office politics. Is it exaggerated? Of course, but it is also pretty true and that's what makes it great.
The big news of the week was the unveiling of Pottermore, the newest addition to the Harry Potter universe. It seems to be an expansion pack to the books, with additional backstory and an interactive element. Even with the small amount of info given in the press release, this still seems like a shaky concept. However, time will tell, so go and sign up for opening day.
We are wishing a Happy 10th Anniversary to American Gods, that released a bigger and better Anniversary edition this week.

Image Comics announced that they are mimicing DC Comics' rating system due to customer requests. With two large publishers following this system, will more follow?
This week, it was announced that David Goyer will be bringing 100 Bullets to the small screen. Showtime has jumped on the graphic novel bandwagon and I am glad they are bringing a comic veteran to work on this project.
Torchwood: Miracle Day is fast approaching and this time it comes with a fun side story. They are releasing a motion comic to watch along with the show, starring Eliza Dushku. The only downside is that you have to pay to watch and play along, with the entire comic costing $2.99 on iTunes.
In the awesome column this week, check out this Lego rendition of Rapture from Bioshock. This is a crazy amount of detail, which is just mind-boggling!
It's Friday and this week had a lot of great videos. From Team Unicorn to George Takei to Batman, this week was chock full of win!
Let's begin with Team Unicorn. Remember their superHarmony video? Wildly popular and hilarious? They just released the outtakes and they are just as good or even a little better than the finished product. Who doesn't love outtakes?
As many of you know, I have been vocal in my opinion of Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark. It's a show that needs a lot of work if it wants to last. Star Trek's George Takei has decided he is the answer to the troubled Broadway production, and I think I agree. After all, it's not like he could make it any worse. Al he has to do is say, "Oh my" and the crowds will come a-runnin'. Here is his audition tape.
It's Lego Batman with not one but two Jokers! That's right, the past and the present team up in this awesome vid.
And finally, I'd like to give a special shout out to one of my friends. Today is her birthday and she's a WoW player. So in honor of that, I give you this oldie but oh so goodie...
Happy Birthday H!
And that concludes this week's Video Friday. If you come across anything you want me to feature send it to me at insertgeekhere@gmail.com. Have a great weekend folks!

After taking a break last week and mulling things over (and who doesn't like a good mulling), it's been decided that we're retooling Musical Friday and making it Video Friday instead. This doesn't mean we won't showcase musical videos we come across, but there are so many great non-musical videos out there we want to be able to include them too.
For starters, a much needed dose of Lego violence -
Special shout out to the geeks group on Facebook where this video was thrown up. Not to brag, but our group contains some of the best geeks around. They always share awesome stuff.
Next up is something that made me feel a little silly for including it, but this is something we've all done with our friends, and it's nice to see celebrities goofing off and being silly, especially when it's to The Backstreet Boys. So here's Selena Gomez and The Scene "covering" I Want It That Way.
Hmmm, now that I think of it, maybe I should have put the Lego violence after this one, for anyone who dislikes her. Oh well.
This is one of the cutest and most creative videos I've watched all week. Disney Pixar's Up if it had been made in the '60s.
I can definitely see this as a movie. Can't you?
Finally, a theme song for all the Nerdy Girls out there -
A special thanks to Jill Pantozzi, who introduced Amy Lee Radigan to the geeks group. This is Amy Lee's first youtube video, so I can't wait to see what else she has in store for us.
This concludes our first Video Friday. Let us know what you think and if you see any great videos you want us to share, send them to us at insertgeekhere@gmail.com.

Wysefyre here with this week's Musical Friday. Today, we're talking Legos. Most of us had them growing up (if you didn't, call your parents & yell at them for depriving you) and they provided us with hours of fun. We built villages, machinery and vehicles, and took the heads off of the little Lego people and played with them (or was the just me?) Over the years, Legos have gotten more impressive and more themed. You can build the Star Wars and Harry Potter universes or more generic pirate ships and wild west towns. The possibilities are limitless (this is sounding too much like an ad so I'll move on). It was only a matter of time before people started getting really creative and making movies and video games with Legos. Here are some of the great videos floating around...
Pump It - The Black Eyed Peas
A jail break and a giant killing robot? How does it get any better? Parker W. Young does an amazing job with this.
Bohemian Rhapsody - Queen
This video has it all - Queen, Death, his personal assistant, Beelzebub, and salsa! Who can ask for anything more? Now we go from Queen to.... Broadway?
Blackout - In the Heights (Original Broadway Cast)
My current musical obsession is In the Heights. As you can hear, it's not your parents' Broadway show. It's something different and exciting. I saw this video and fell in love with it. It's a fairly accurate portrayal of the show's staging and they're so darn cute. $100 is the most money he's ever seen? Makes me smile every time. Now to finish up, what Lego post would be complete without..........
Star Wars Gangster Rap - Bentframe
You can learn more about Bentframe here. Be sure to check out their other songs. Hilarious! The video was created by Michael Inglis and it's such a perfect compliment to the rap. You know you love dancing Stormtroopers and a break dancing Yoda as much as I do.
There you have it, a small taste of the power of Lego. I hope you enjoyed it and maybe this will spark your imaginations and you'll want to go out, get some Legos and create amazing videos yourself. (If you do, send them our way so we can feature them.) Until next time....
