McFarlane takes on the DC Universe!

Did you just hear an unearthly scream?  It was my wallet, realizing I'm going to be buying another collection.  That's because McFarlane Toys has teamed up with DC Comics to make new DC figures!

DC Comics Goes Primal!!!

Do you love DC Comics?  Do you love Funko?  Do you wish I would stop asking you questions?  Well, you are in luck on the first two!  DC Comics announced that they are releasing a 100-Page One-Shot Inspired by Funko toys!  That's right, you are getting a comic books based on toys that are based on comic book characters.  

Before you plan out your pull list, keep in mind that this is a Target Exclusive, so you will need to make two stops this week!  And when it includes the tagline of "the Joker on a Giant Lizard" and a lineup including Marv Wolfman, Louise Simonson and Jerry Ordway, how can you pass this up?!

YOU Can Attend the Premiere of DC's REIGN OF THE SUPERMEN

Gotta move fast to get tickets!

That's right,  Warner Bros. Entertainment is inviting you to the BI-COASTAL PREMIERES of REIGN OF THE SUPERMEN, the next entry in the popular, ongoing series of DC Universe Movies, in LOS ANGELES (January 10, 2019) and NEW YORK (January 28, 2019).

So you are probably interested in attending the premiere.  But first, here is some details on the film....

Reign of the Supermen finds Earth’s citizens – and the Man of Steel’s heroic contemporaries – dealing with a world without Superman. But the aftermath of Superman’s death, and the subsequent disappearance of his body, leads to a new mystery – is Superman still alive? The question is further complicated when four new super-powered individuals – Steel, Cyborg Superman, Superboy and the Eradicator – emerge to proclaim themselves as the ultimate hero. In the end, only one will be able to proclaim himself the world’s true Superman.

Kotobukiya's ARTFX+ Takes on Batman Vs. Superman!

Remember that awesome Hulkbuster vs. Hulk statue that showed up last year?  The great minds at Kotobukiya is at it again with another dual statue.  They announced an amazing Batman vs. Superman statue battling it out in advance of the new movie coming out this year.

Snow Days Equal LEGO

As you may or may not know, [IGH] is based in New York City. We were scheduled for a giant, crazy, major storm this week. However, science happened and I was denied my chance to face plant myself into 3+ feet of snow. But because the city shut itself down, my day job followed suit and I got a snow day!!! 

Glorious snow day! How I missed you from my childhood. I couldnt just squander this precious gift on TV and the Internet. Why do chores when I can reenact snow days of old? In order to take full advantage of this uninterrupted playtime, I broke out my Legos.

I got this set as an event giveaway earlier in the week. And first, I set it up as the box suggested. One must follow the instructions. Sadly, this took way longer than it should. I obviously need to build more sets.

After it was all set up, I enacted the whole scene so Superman fails and Lois takes Zod down herself. Why? Because it's my snow day. Then I proudly showed it off to my roommate, who continued to do whatever grownup thing she was doing. All of this was followed by playing in the small amount of snow we got because it's still snow.

So, the next snow day you might be lucky enough to get, don't feel pressured to do grown up things. That's for the everyday pressures of life. Instead, break out your toys, sit on the floor and play.

First Glimpse of Justice League vs. Bizarro League

You must know by now how much I LOVE the Lego games.  Any opportunity to ride around Gotham City in the Batmobile. And let's not forget about the previous Lego DC film projects.  Now we can enjoy that world even more with the announcement of Warner Bros. Animations new's release, LEGO DC Comics Super Heroes: Justice League vs. Bizarro League!  As per Warner Bros. press release:

Batman has joined the newly formed Justice League in order 

to keep tabs on Superman, a mistrust that is complicated by 

Superman's clumsy – but well-meaning – clone, Bizarro. 

Bizarro's creation of the Bizarro League has caused confusion 

amongst the world's greatest Super Heroes, but an even 

greater and mysterious threat may force the Justice League

and Bizarro League to band together to defeat evil. 

This sounds great!  The film will be released on February 10, 2015 on BluRay, DVD and Digital Download.  If you can't wait, watch the trailer below.

[IGH] at the Movies: Man of Steel

This week marks the return of the first superhero to the big screen in Man of Steel.  Three of the [IGH] family got a chance to see it right before it opened and you know we all had different feelings.

Random Thoughts: Justice League - Where Do Superman's Powers Come From?

I recently discovered that Justice League was playing on Netflix. This made me extremely happy. It's the "In the Blackest Night" episode where Green Lantern is on trial on Ajuris 5. The JL goes to rescue him, and Superman is kicking alien butt, which is always fun, but then I thought, "How does he have his powers on that planet?"

Superman is a comic that I would love to follow, but there is just too much to catch up on. I pick up some of the stories in the trades, but mostly, I get my Superman fix from the movies, TV shows, and occasionally Wiki. I was always under the impression that Superman's powers came from the yellow sun. Has that changed? If so, when and what's the new version?

Toy Fair 2013: Mattel's got a Super Secret!

Yesterday at Toy Fair, I got a chance to see Mattel's new movie masters line of Man of Steel Action Figures.    There were four figures on display, plus one in the packaging.  Sadly, we weren't able to take any pictures, but I'm gonna try to describe them for ya.

I know you are kinda wondering what I'm getting at.  Well, this past Sunday I attended a 75th Birthday Party for Superman at the Center for Jewish History.  That's right, the very first issue of Action Comics came out in June of 1938.  Wowza.

They caught the sleazebag that stole part of a Superman collection from Mike Meyer.  Meyer has gotten his collection back but since this story has broken, his collection has doubled.  He plans on donating the items he has received in order to spread the wealth.  Mr. Meyer, we salute you!

Superman has been pushed back to a June 2013 release. After my anger subsided, I realized that it may be for the best. Now, it will be for the best since it will be the highlight of that weekend.

Sunday Links for May 1

This week was a roar of craziness as Superman renounced his US citizenship in Action comics #900.  Even Fox News got to put their two cents in.  Considering he was never from Earth to begin with, I'm not that broken up about it.  As Bleeding Cool let us know, Superman has always been a citizen of the world.

This week was the Royal Wedding and geeks marked it by looking at some of the many geek weddings.  And while most geeks didn't really understand the royal fascination, Nicole Wakelin let us know why we should not mock those people that do.

Happy Birthday to Kickstarter, who celebrated their 2nd b-day by releasing their stats.  It is so amazing to see just how many dreams came true with the money raised by us ordinary people. 

Today kicks off the start of the Geek Girls Book Club with The Hobbit.  Thanks again to Ginia Bellafante for the great book suggestion.  Not a girl?  No problem, guys are welcome to join too!

Sunday Links for March 27th

Welcome to the evening edition of Sunday Links. This past week brought some fun and exciting news.


Marvel announced a new team-up this week....with Starbucks. Coming in April to each Starbucks is free streaming access to Marvel's Digital Comics. Do you think they are ready for the geek invasion?


The Egypt revolution changed the world, and now we will get to see what exactly was changed. Magdy El Shafee wrote the graphic novel "Metro" in 2008, but it was banned in Egypt. Now it is going to be published in English and hopefully, it will be allowed to publish again in Egypt.


Jill Pantozzi, aka The Nerdy Bird, announced this week that she will be a judge on the upcoming geek game show, Geek vs. Geek. It's a chance for geeks to put their brains to the test and see who really is the top geek. You can still try out for the show if you think you got what it takes; just be glad that Jill is judging and not competing. ;)


I'm sure every artist wishes they could go back to their early work and make it better, or at least make it go away. That's what Ryan Ottley did, by actually burning original art from his early years. At least some of the pages were from early issues of Invincible, which means he burned a lot of money.


I am already excited for Superman, and this news just makes it even better. Amy Adams is the new Lois Lane. She is a phenomenal actress in every role I have seen her in, from her guest role on Buffy, to her starring roles in Doubt, Julia & Julie, and The Fighter.

Sunday Links for March 6

After this week of quoting the insanities of Charlie Sheen, let's take a look back and see what else we missed....


The big movie news of the week was the release of a very creepy looking Red Skull from the new Captain America movie. Love the look and I am totally getting more excited by the day! In DC movie news, there is a rumor floating that Aragorn himself, Viggo Mortensen, is up for the role of General Zod in the new Superman flick. You all know how excited I am for Superman, and I would love to see Mortensen be the baddie.


CBLDF announced this week, in conjunction with Cryptozoic Entertainment, their new trading card series called The Liberty Trading Cards. The set will include sketch cards, chase cards and autographs, along with more than 70 of today’s top creators. I guess the new trend for geeks is trading cards, after the Geek A Week cards went on sale last month. CBLDF is also fundraising with 100 Words, a poem about death written by Neil Gaiman and drawn by Jim Lee. The poem can be purchased for $0.99 in the DC Comics app from comiXology, with all of DC's proceeds going to the Comic Book Legal Defense fund.

This past Wednesday was the 25th Anniversary of She-Ra, the pinnacle female from the MotU shows. As someone who grew up telling people that I was the Princess of Power, among other things, I am excited to see that She-Ra lives on in the memories of others, inspiring many as she inspired me.


If you head over to Google today, you will see a tribute to Will Eisner. Today would have been his 94th birthday, and it kicks off Will Eisner Week. MoCCA in NYC is starting a Will Eisner exhibit this week, along with the “In the Spirit of Will Eisner” show with Eisner-influenced pieces. There are events happening all over the world, so check Will Eisner Week to see if it is happening in your area.


This one really gets to me. MTV Geek puts out a list of the 10 Best Post-Apocalyptic Comics and Resurrection isn't on it?! I mean, some of these are great series but Resurrection is just a superb alien apocalypse tale. Go read it.


Whew, we made it through without a single Sheen reference....oh wait. I just gotta post this! Comics Alliance has paired Charlie Sheen quotes with superheroes, and it is just too perfect. Enjoy or weep. Your choice.

Sunday Links for Feb. 27

This past week was filled with sadness at the news of the sudden passing of Dwayne McDuffie. There have been some touching remembrances of him from many places including The New York Times, Comic Book Resources, The Beat, Bleeding Cool, The Nerdy Bird and iFanboy. As a huge fan of Static Shock cartoon, I am saddened by this news. I wish I had gotten a chance to meet him and thank him for such a great superhero. Our condolences to his family.

DC has a lot going on this week. There are rumors that they are canceling the First Wave line completely for poor sales. If this is true, this is the second major DC cancellation this month. Robot 6 is speculating that they are looking to grow their stable of artists in hopes of growing their big name talent.

The Eisner Hall of Fame inductees were announced this week, with the surprise of four inductees rather than the standard two. The inductees picked from four areas of the industry to insure that people weren't being overlooked for their significant contributions. The inductees are Ernie Bushmiller, Jack Jackson (Jaxon), Marty Nodell, and Lynd Ward. Congratulations to all of the inductees!

In movie news this week, IDW's Zombies vs. Robots has been optioned by Sony Pictures, with Michael Bay attached. In other movie news, you can read why I am so excited about the new Superman movie.

Four Reasons why I'm Excited for Superman

I went and picked up a copy of this week's Entertainment Weekly. I only get it if it has something I really, really, really, really want to read.... like details about the new Superman movie.


I'm not a huge Superman fan; I don't read the comics or obsessively rewatch the movies. I don't even watch Smallville anymore. However, I do think this film has a lot of potential to be a good superhero flick. Here's why.


Four Reasons why I'm Excited for Superman



1- Henry Cavill is a good, hot actor.


I may not be a Superman fan, but I am a Tudors fan. Cavill blew me away in that show. Not just 'cause I think he is pretty but he really takes a character to his full potential. He is due to skyrocket through Hollywood. I think he will bring tremendous talent to the character and the film.


2- With all of the Marvel flicks scheduled to come out, DC needs to remind people they still make films!


And yes, I do know that other DC films are slated for release. Just not as many! Marvel just seems to be all over the place, with at least 6 films coming out over the next 18 months. Compared to DC's two films, no wonder why I feel like all I hear about is Marvel. DC, you have some of my favorite characters, get them up on the big screen already!


3- They need to blow the last so-so Superman out of the water.


It will always be part of the Superman family of films, just not my favorite. This is the one time I really support a "reboot" of the franchise. Please give us a Man of Steel for this decade.


4- Christopher Nolan wrote it.


Do I really need to explain this? Just head over to imdb and take a good look at his filmography. Enough said.
