The Star Battles!

There is an epic geek battle happening right now on the interwebs.  It is a classic battle of fandoms that spans generations.  It is Star Trek vs. Star Wars!  That's right, we are still in the struggle of two classic scifi influences.  This is not an old argument; it has become so mainstream there was even a movie with a running joke dedicated to it!

Trekkers really aren't that bad
I rarely meet someone who hates one versus the other.  In the long run, I think most geeks are like me in that we enjoy both franchises for various reasons.  I don't even consider them in the same field since SW is definitely more fantasy than ST.  Additionally, ST takes place in our future where SW takes place in someone else's past.  In the end, they are only compared because they both have "Star" in the title and have greatly influenced pop culture.

Still, this battle has taken a backseat over the past few years, especially since everyone put aside their differences to hate on Twilight.  So how did this all start up again?  You can blame Bill Shatner for that one.  He posted a short video talking about how Star Trek was so much better than Star Wars....

This got a lot of attention from a lot of geeks.  Even I gave this a view, just because I thought it would be a laugh.  Well, apparently someone didn't find it as funny as I did.  That's right, Carrie Fisher decided to give Shatner a piece of her mind.

Fisher decided to fire back with a few guns, attacking not just Star Trek's budget but Shatner's body.  Love how things just got personal really fast.  Still torn about buns versus ears though.  Shatner decided yesterday to heat things up with this latest response to Dearest Carrie....

Just wow.  Telling a woman to "uplift" is a bit much but still very funny.  Still, in the end they both made fun of themselves enough to keep it lighthearted.

Well, I think that this might continue on through You-Tube for quite some time but no resolution will ever be found.  Therefore I have a plan to propose.  What if they just duke it out live at San Diego Comic Con?  What's better than a place filled with all things geek?  Set up a panel with the two of them and a moderator.  They can answer question after question from the very experts in the field, their fans!  Then the panel attendees can vote on the winner!  All I ask is that neither of them show up in costume.

Yes, we might risk a small riot if the masses disagree, but I think it is worth the risk to put this epic question to rest.  Who else would love to see this battle royale?
