Mezco One:12 Collective Presents Conan the Barbarian

Mezco's latest addition to the One:12 Collective has been revealed. They're giving us Robert E. Howard’s legendary character, Conan The Barbarian; based off of Frank Frazetta’s paintings.

From recreating Frank Frazetta’s ‘The Barbarian’ painting, to readying Conan for a long trek across the snow peaked mountains of his homeland, to an epic Hyborian Age battle, the One:12 Collective this Conan figure includes a bounty of weapons, accessories, and outfitting to create many distinct looks for display.

The fearsome warrior is outfitted in an interchangeable loincloth and includes a removable crossbody battle axe harness, removable cape that drapes freely, belt that can hold his sword sheaths and dagger, and mid-calf boots.

Barbarian of the far north, Conan was born on a battlefield and became a respected warrior by the age of 15. Traveling throughout the world, Conan has been a thief, outlaw, mercenary, and pirate. Motivated by his own survival, power, and enrichment, Conan will do whatever it takes to rise to the top.

Review: King Conan #1

By Reboot

This Wednesday, May 29th, Dark Horse Comics premieres Issue #1 of 6 of a new Conan series titled King Conan: The Hour of the Dragon.  This is scripted by Timothy Truman, with art by Tomas Giorello and adapted from the novel of the same name by Conan creator Robert E. Howard.

Let me start with what I do know about Conan.  Admittedly, I'm not well versed in the comics.  My knowledge of Conan comes primarily from the two films starring Arnold Schwarzenegger and the cartoon Conan The Adventurer which I watched often as a kid (I even had some of the action figures!).  In all fairness, that probably gives me a better background on the character than the average person you'll run into on the street, but that doesn't necessarily prepare me for the kind of intricate plot threads you'd find in a comic book series that has been going on more or less for many decades.

Sunday Links for February 12th

This week has been one filled with ups and downs.  While prepping for a week filled with awesome events, Wysefyre and I found out that Whitney Houston passed away.  We just want to thank Ms. Houston for her contributions to the music industry.  Our thoughts are with her family and friends.

Friends fight this week as Tony Moore filed lawsuit against Robert Kirkman over ownership of The Walking Dead.  This isn't the time they have fought in court, so it is especially sad to see them back here.

GeekGirlCon 2012 has dates!  The hit of 2011, GeekGirlCon 2012 will be August 11-12 in Seattle, WA.  Start planning to go now!

A call for help has been issued to geeks!  There is now an online petition asking for people to boycott Marvel until they recognize Jack Kirby's rights as a creator and make recompense to his heirs.  A few fans are supporting this, including one that will be boycotting Avengers in solidarity.  However, I doubt there will be enough boycotting to make a difference to Marvel.

Make sure that you enter our contest to win a Conan #1 and Conan poster, both signed by Brian Wood and Becky Cloonan!  It's a great issue from Dark Horse Comics!

Review: Conan #1 plus a chance to Win!

Courtesy of Dark Horse Comics
Remember way back in October, when I got a chance to interview Brian Wood and Becky Cloonan about the Conan series?  Well, issue #1 is out this week, and it rocked my world!  This first issue follows Conan as he jumps on board of a ship while he is running from the law and falls in the path of Belit, the Queen of the Black Coast.

Never reading Conan before, this was an interesting intro in his world. The story provides only a little background, but you are engrossed from the start. Right away, Conan's charisma makes you root for him.  This character shows honor that a hero should have, especially when he helps the ship captain defend himself.  Still, we see Conan's flaws when he puts others in danger to save himself.  This looks like it will be an interesting source of character development in the future.

Preview Conan #1 from Dark Horse Comics!

A long, long time ago in October, Dark Horse Comics announced Brian Wood and Becky Cloonan as the new team for the classic hero, Conan.  As you all may remember, I got the awesome chance to interview them after this announcement.  That is why I am so excited to check out the preview pages Dark Horse sent along!

These aren't quite what I imagined but I am hooked.  The story starts off so quickly, and leaves you wanting more!  On top of that, the art is visually stunning, especially that last panel.  I have no idea how I'm going to wait until February when it's released to find out what happens next!  Take a look for yourselves and let us know what you think!
