Marvel's Captain America: Civil War Trailer Gives Us Spider-Man

The new trailer for Marvel's Captain America: Civil War has finally arrived, and it packs a wallop! Not only do we get a better sense of how the story is going to unfold, but we also get a glimpse at how Spider-Man is going to fit into everything. Check it out below.

I'm excited to see Spidey, but I'm not sure how I feel about his suit. It leans a little too much towards the comic books. Normally, I'd be happy to see more comic book elements in the movies, but in this case, Spider-Man's vibrant red suit looks out of place. I hope it's just one awkward shot, and he looks fine for the rest of his appearance. But other than that, this trailer is making me wish May 6th would get here quickly. 

The official synopsis for the movie is "Marvel’s “Captain America: Civil War” finds Steve Rogers leading the newly formed team of Avengers in their continued efforts to safeguard humanity. But after another incident involving the Avengers results in collateral damage, political pressure mounts to install a system of accountability, headed by a governing body to oversee and direct the team. The new status quo fractures the Avengers, resulting in two camps—one led by Steve Rogers and his desire  for the Avengers to remain free to defend humanity without government interference, and the other following Tony Stark’s surprising decision to support government oversight and accountability."

Marvel's Point One: Highfive Marvel!

Marvel announced a new initiative called "Point One" which is a starting point for readers to join the ongoing storylines as a way to bring in new readers.

Unlike the rest of IGH, I don't read many Marvel or DC titles. The classic characters of these titles have been around forever and there is so much about them, it is hard to get started. I came into comics later in life and missed out on a lot that is important in these universes. It always seemed easier to avoid them and just read books that I could really understand. I tend to go for the smaller publishers for my comics. I know the basic origins of the major super heroes and my Marvel and DC buddies can fill me in on the details.

That's why this program is so awesome for me. Now I can jump on the Marvel train. (Too cheesy?) I would love the chance to read some of these titles, especially Invincible Iron Man (love the movies) and Deadpool (mostly because I like sarcasm). Maybe even a little Captain America, you never know. Now I have the option to jump in and understand what's going on without bugging my friends or reading 50 years of background material. The Marvelverse is my oyster. High-five Marvel. Granted, this may not bring in non-comic readers who are unlikely to walk into their local store but for the readers like me, this will be a good fit.

I think this will help Marvel a lot too and not just in the new reader department. In looking over the list slated for the "Point One" treatment, I also saw the names for their upcoming movies for the next three years. Great way to cross promote! (Just don't change the movie too much from the story or you will have even more enraged fans then you did after the Wolverine debacle of '09.)

Iron Man 2 - Alternate Opening

Watch It Before It's Too Late!!!

Recently, a bootlegged clip of an alternate opening for Iron Man 2 came out. I love the clip. It opens with Tony puking on a toilet. It's funny and it's character appropriate. It hasn't really been addressed in the movies but for those familiar with the comics know that Tony is an alcoholic. So why didn't this clip make the movie? 

Little kids worship Iron Man. Having the hero puking and hung over doesn't really portray him in the best light, which could possibly lead to less kiddie worshipping, which means less revenue for Marvel. Not only that, on the flip side, it could lead to kids asking questions parents aren't quite ready to answer. It's a lot easier to to have a discussion about the dangers of explosions or Whiplash than trying to explain why someone feels the need to drown themselves in booze, especially someone who is as awesome as Tony. It might humanize him, which is great, but when they're young, who wants to possibly tear down a kid's hero? 

I would love to see this clip make it to the special features of one of the inevitable Iron Man collector's editions or super packs but I doubt it so enjoy this while you can.
