In case you don't know, Q-Fig's are Quantum Mechanix's answer to Funko Pops, and they suit me just fine.  I've got a number of Q-Figs on my shelf because the detail put into each piece is phenomenal, with a price point that doesn't kill my wallet.  So Wonder Woman will soon be riding right onto my shelf!

First Glimpse of Justice League vs. Bizarro League

You must know by now how much I LOVE the Lego games.  Any opportunity to ride around Gotham City in the Batmobile. And let's not forget about the previous Lego DC film projects.  Now we can enjoy that world even more with the announcement of Warner Bros. Animations new's release, LEGO DC Comics Super Heroes: Justice League vs. Bizarro League!  As per Warner Bros. press release:

Batman has joined the newly formed Justice League in order

to keep tabs on Superman, a mistrust that is complicated by
Superman's clumsy – but well-meaning – clone, Bizarro.
Bizarro's creation of the Bizarro League has caused confusion
amongst the world's greatest Super Heroes, but an even
greater and mysterious threat may force the Justice League
and Bizarro League to band together to defeat evil.

This sounds great!  The film will be released on February 10, 2015 on BluRay, DVD and Digital Download.  If you can't wait, watch the trailer below.

Sunday Links for May 15

The big news of the week was the beginning of the TV massacre. Among shows that are canceled are geek favorites No Ordinary Family, V and The Event. Happily, bubble show but personal fav Chuck is coming back for a final season! We also heard about new show pickups with the sad news that geek shows Locke & Key and Wonder Woman were discarded, despite all of the fan interest/anger. You can see if your show has been renewed here. TVLine also has a preview of shows definitely to come right here.

Apparently Marvel has been cutting back on page counts on some of their $2.99 books to 20 pages, in suit with DC Comics. However, these books are going to release extra issues so creators don't lose out on work.

Talking about cutting back, Upper Deck has been chopping up vintage Marvel comics to make trading cards. They are going to be the rarest addition to their Marvel Beginning series. I kinda want one but I feel sad that some of these vintage comics are being destroyed.

For a laugh, check out All Things Fangirl's interpretation of how a movie pitch meeting really goes. Warning though, the humor starts to fade when you realize it may be true.

Despite being a few days late, Tom Katers over at iFanboy wrote a touching tribute to his Mom and how she helped him become such a great geek.

Until next week....

Wonder Woman's New Look - Yay or Nay?

The network heard the cries of the fans and decided to alter the look of the Wonder Woman outfit for the television series... you'd think we'd be happy they listened to us and took our criticisms seriously. Well, we would be if NBC had not given us this:

It's great that the boots are now the original red, as they should be, and they also are sporting a lower heel, making running easier, but the shape of the boots is horrible. They remind me of rain boots.

And the pants? Ugh! One of the biggest complaints was how shiny they were. Okay, again, it's great that this was taken into account, but did they need to make them look like they are made from the cheapest spandex/polyester blend available? And what's up with the row of stars? Is it to make her look more patriotic, is it decorative or did they just have some extra stars laying around in the costume design area and decided to play around with them?

I honestly don't know which is better? This or the original. I understand it is difficult to design something that is realistic as well as fantastical while keeping its iconic feel, but surely, the design team has access to better materials. If not, then a) they should be given a bigger budget and b) I'm a little worried about the show because the outfit is very important for Wonder Woman. She's Wonder Woman, for pete's sake! Let's do her justice!

To see more pictures, head over to The Daily Blam.

What do you guys think? Better or worse?

Wonder Woman: First Look

The first picture of Adrianne Palicki as Wonder Woman has been released and is already causing a lot of debate. Take it in, think about it and then read my thoughts below...

For the most part, I like it. I think the designers worked hard to blend the iconic look of Wonder Woman with the newer, updated one that's been in the comics, while trying to add a little something for just the show. My biggest issues are that the boots are the wrong color and it's very shiny, but I guess I can live with that.

There are many interesting discussions about the outfit going on across the web, and one of the comments I came across talked about how it was too "Halloween costume trashy." I love this comment because my original thought was that it would make a decent Halloween costume, but my next thought was "At least it's not as trashy as some of the other super heroine costumes out there." If I was going to go as Wonder Woman, I'd be more inclined to wear this than the other types out there.

I've seen other comments from other articles discussing not just the look of the outfit, but also the actress wearing it. Adrianne Palicki is a wonderful actress. I have enjoyed a lot of her work, but I tend to agree that part of why the outfit is coming across a little "porn star/trashy/Halloween-y/etc." is because she is not statuesque enough to really own it. She is slighter than what one would expect of an Amazon. So it comes down to the physicality and how one carries themselves. If you put a woman like Lucy Lawless or Gina Torres in this, they would own it on an entirely different level. In this photo, I am not seeing the Amazonian power I equate with Wonder Woman.

What I would love in the next photo released is to see a less forced and uncomfortable picture that allows us to see exactly what the creative team saw in Ms. Palicki that made them say she was the right person to play Wonder Woman.

To learn more about the various fashion changes Wonder Woman has gone through over the years, check out this great article by Alan Kistler, who writes the "Agent of S.T.Y.L.E" column for Newsarama.

Review: MAC's Wonder Woman Line

Recently, MAC makeup announced their new line of Wonder Women makeup. As a geek girl, I was thrilled. Yes, it is probably a shameless attempt at the company to get my money, but it makes me feel validated as a geek and a girl. It's nice to feel that a makeup company recognizes that geek girls aren't a stereotype and that we wear makeup.

MAC even sponsored this great fashion show by Jeremy Scott during NY Fashion Week that features Superhero Fashion.

I went with the team to Macy's to check it out because it looked so fun! While Getsuyobi hid by the door holding our bags, Wysefyre and I happily checked out all of the fun cases they had out.

The display was old school Wonder Woman and looked great. A guy even came in off the street just to take a picture of it.

I loved the look of the compacts and how bright and bold they were. They did capture the feel of Wonder Woman. The makeup colors were also bright and bold to the point of "I can't wear those except to a cosplay" bright. Granted, with the right skin tone, it may look good, but the average girl might feel a bit out of place.

I had gone into the store planning on buying a lip glass, because I love having all different shades of lip wear. After looking at everything, I decided to buy Secret Identity, a bronze, shimmery shade that looked similar to other lip glosses I own and the only one I liked out of the bunch. When I finally got home to try it, it looked very watery against my lips, almost like melted chocolate. Once I blotted, it looked a little better but I was disappointed. Wysefyre tested the eyeliner on her hand, and it refused to wash off for two days, despite a lot of scrubbing. It finally came off after she used some toxic strength cleaning products.

Overall, this line didn't stand up to MAC usual quality. However, I still plan on buying regular MAC products, and I am hopeful that they will expand the Wonder Woman line with better quality stuff.

What does Wonder Women Teach You?

Does she teach you to be strong? Does she teach you to be independent? Does she teach you to be a hero?

If any of these questions resonate with you, then you check out The History of the Universe as Told by Wonder Woman. This is a documentary in progress that asks people what female superheroes teach them and how female superheroes changed our world. They have interviewed a ton of people including Gloria Steinem, Lynda Carter, and Lindsay Wagner.

From their Kickstarter page:

The goal of the film is to explore how female heroes have fared in popular culture. We're using Wonder Woman as the central figure in this story, as she's the rare example of a female hero who doesn't require rescue and determines her own actions and adventures. The film not only serves as an inquiry into our evolving values about women as agents of strength, authority and leadership, but also reminds us of our common need -- no matter our gender, race, class or sexual orientation -- for stories that tell us we can all be heroes.

Watch the video with details below, then go check out their Kickstarter page!

I haven't spent much time on Kickstarter but this is a great project on there that should supported by us all.

Sunday Links

Yesterday the IGH team spent the day at the NYC Coffee and Tea Festival, so I am recovering from my caffeine high as I look back on the past week's news.

In DC news this week, we have the sad announcement that seven titles are being canceled over the next two months. It looks like they are cleaning house before the Flashpoint event takes over.

Who is that women in red and gold? It's our new Wonder Woman! Adrianne Palicki is taking control of the lasso in the new NBC series. In more Wonder Woman news, you can watch disturbing audition material from the show at i09. Geek girls have come too far to still have "big tits save lives" comments. I get what they were going for, but they need to revisit the script again.

Are you a fan of Esty and all of those handmade items? Well be careful: According to this article over at The Weekly Crisis, there are some "original artworks" being sold on Esty that are really stolen from hardworking artists. Caveat Emptor!

My favorite gamer news of the week is the announcement that Fables and The Walking Dead games are being created by Telltale Games. With Telltale in the mix, these are going to be download-able games, rather than in a store, so this is one less thing to stand in line for!

For all of the emotionally-scarred Glee fans from the last episode, here is some more Bieber to pass the time! I love James Earl Jones and anything he says sounds great to me, even if it is Justin Bieber.

Until next week......
