Unboxed: "Doctor Who: Gallifrey Collection" 10th Doctor Titans Vinyl

This week, Matthew at NerdNewsToday and I are bringing you another Titans Vinyl Doctor Who collection unboxing. This time, it's the Gallifrey Collection. I think that's a good hint as to the kind of figures we expected to find in this set. But did we complete the set? And did I continue to trip over my tongue or has that improved? You have to watch to find out.

Toy Review: Playmates Ben 10 "XLR8" Action Figure

I need to be honest with you. I wanted to review this Ben 10 action figure from Playmates strictly because of its accessories. I wanted the cones. Matthew at NerdNewsToday and I do more thoroughly review the XLR8 figure, but for me, it was really all about the racing accessories. Watch on!

Toy Review: Playmates Ben 10 "Cannonbolt" Action Figure

This time around Matthew from NerdNewsToday and I are diving  into the world of Ben 10.

If you're not that familiar with Ben 10, it's the story of a 10 year old boy, Ben Tennyson (see what they did there?), who discovers a magical device that allows him to turn into ten different types of aliens. With the help of his family, he fights evil as those aliens.

Currently playing on the Cartoon Network, Ben 10 has been around for over a decade. This is the most recent version. Brought to us by Playmates, today, Matthew and I are going to take a look at Cannonbolt.

Toy Review: WWE Authentic Scale Ring (RAW Edition)

The latest video collaboration between me and Matthew at NerdNewsToday is one I went into with much trepidation. It's the WWE Authentic Scale Ring (RAW Edition). Why was this a little more stress inducing than usual for me? Because even though I like pro wrestling, I've been very hesitant to dive into the world of the WWE toys. I feel like once I start that path, I might not stop. And having a ring to play with? Oooooh, that's just begging to be filled with figures. But I did it and had fun putting it together. Check it out.

Funko X-Men Mystery Minis Blind Box Unboxing and Review

Happy 4th of July! It seems weirdly fitting that today's video review is of a lovable group of outsiders who just want to be able to live their lives in peace and without being horribly regulated and restricted. That's right, Matthew at NerdNewsToday and I are reviewing America!

Ok, if you've read the title (I'm assuming you have), you know that a lie. We're reviewing the Funko X-Men Mystery Minis. The X-Men are my team. They're the ones I related to the most and were my gateway into comics. These Mystery Minis are near and dear to me. Of course, this means I'm about to be subjected to some kind of roller coaster of a ride while looking at these. Was this a good ride filled with happiness or one that left me bitterly disappointed? Keep going to find out.

Toy Review: Playmobil Ghostbusters Firehouse Review

And now, for the pièce de résistance of our Playmobil Ghostbusters line reviews, Matthew at NerdNewsToday and I bring you the Ghostbusters Firehouse. This was an experience. I don't know about you, but while Slimer was my favorite to review, this was what I was really waiting for. I love the Firehouse and all its inner workings. Lego came out with their version, and I'd love to get it, but I can't due to the cost. The Playmobil Firehouse, on the other hand, is much more affordable, as well as the rest of the line. You will not destroy your wallet investing in these. Anyway, on to the grand finale!

As always, if you have any thoughts or suggestions, please comment below. Until next time!

Toy Review: Playmobil Slimer Ghostbusters Playset

We are finally up to the playset I was most excited to review, featuring the ghostest with the mostest, the gooeier, most hungry, most fun spectral being - SLIMER! Now you might think it was the Stay Puft Marshmallow Man that was my favorite, but I love me some Slimer, and Matthew over at Nerd News Today definitely had to pry him out on my hands. Apparently I enjoy boogery looking ghosts. Who knew? But how's the set stack up? Find out below.

Toy Review: Playmobil Peter Venkman & Dana Barrett Ghostbusters Playset

Not only does this set come with the lovely couple, but it also comes with the two terror dogs! it's great for if you want to have the two figures go out on a romantic date with their pets. Ok, maybe not, but it's still fun. Check out our review.

Review: Star Trek FunEdibles Series 1

I'm still a fairly new Trekkie, so I've been trying to play catch up. I've also been getting my hands on as much Star Trek merch as I can. Enter FunEdibles from USAopoly. I saw these at Star Trek Mission last year and knew I would eventually own them. Once I did, I grabbed Matthew from NerdNewsToday, and demanded we review them. Seriously. I was most adamant about it. It was great.

K'Nex Plants VS Zombies: Garden Warfare Mystery Figures Series 4 Unboxed

Plants vs. Zombies is one of those games I wish I spent more time with, but I get a little overzealous with games, so I try not to play too many of them. At least not the ones I know I can get obsessive over. PvZ is one of those games. I also really like the comics. They amuse me, so when Matthew at NerdNewsToday wanted to review the Plants VS Zombies: Garden Warfare Mystery Figures Series 4 from K'Nex, I was all in. Watch and enjoy the silly faces I make as we review them.

Matthew from NerdNewsToday and I are back with more blind bag fun! This time, it's the Super Mario Blind Bags from K'Nex. I've been a little behind on all things K'Nex. I hadn't realized they were making blind bags. This is Series 9. Where was I for the other 8? Watch and see.

Review: Kill Shakespeare Past Is Prologue: Juliet #1

By Reboot

"And if a gentleman showed himself, I'd be happy to take his arm."

Conor McCreery is at it again with trying to kill Shakespeare! That's right, IDW's Kill Shakespeare created by Conor McCreery and Anthony Del Col is back in a fifth installment for the prequel, Past Is Prologue: Juliet. This time Conor McCreery is flying solo as writer with artist Corin Howell, colorist Shari Chankhamma, and letterer Chris Mowry.

So how does issue #1 of this new installment stack up? I was just getting to that.  But before I do let me give you the premise, especially for those unfamiliar with Kill Shakespeare as this is also a good starting point for the series.

Kill Shakespeare is a world where Shakespeare's creations, heroes and villains alike, are all real and he's looked up to as a powerful background figure like the Wizard of Oz. Earlier installments have shown off many of the different characters interacting including Juliet, but we never quite got her full backstory.

As many of you are hopefully aware, Juliet from Shakespeare's Romeo & Juliet dies at the end of the play. In Kill Shakespeare: Juliet #1, it's immediately revealed that she had survived the poisoning. Sad and Resentful, Juliet wants to escape from her family to end her life and be with Romeo, but plans don't always work out the way we originally envision them, especially of you're created by William Shakespeare.

Conor McCreery weaves a story here that is dealing with a few less characters than previous installments. It's also a bit of a slow burn. Previous installments have started with a bang and slowed down after, or start with a mystery to keep you turning the pages. Conor's approach here is to take it slow, lay down the groundwork and build on it all the way to the end. It's different from some of what I've seen before in Kill Shakespeare, but it works here.

Corin Howell debuts as the new Kill Shakespeare artist and it's a fantastic debut. I'm not sure how much of it is Conor's scripts or how Corin lays out the pages, but they're mostly very dense with the overwhelming majority of pages being a minimum of five panels. You really feel like you're getting a lot of story in this comic. These layouts are honestly incredible. Most of the pages do an excellent job of bringing your eyes from top center down to bottom center in a way I don't often see done. The last page is the best example of this, and is honestly the best page in the whole comic.

Shari Chankhamma had previously colored Kill Shakespeare which really helped give the book the feel of previous volumes. Shari does an excellent job through the book, but in particular for me the second to last scene where Juliet meets The Player is gorgeously colored and shaded, and the last page is colored perfectly. Really, that page is so incredibly executed.

While Kill Shakespeare: Juliet #1 is somewhat of a departure from the formula we've seen in the previous four volumes, it's an excellent, well paced march to tragedy that is nearly impossible to pull off in a prequel. It's also a great introduction to the series, so please, if you haven't read any of the series yet and want to jump in, this is the way to do it.

Kill Shakespeare Past is Prologue: Juliet #1 hits the shelves on Wednesday, April 5th.

Celebrating 20 Years of Buffy: Buffy's Impact of Mental Illness

It's Buffy's 20th Anniversary and you're going to see tons of memories and reflections about the cast/crew and Buffy's impact on society and how amazing she is. Instead of repeating what many will discuss, I want to take a few moments to reflect on Buffy’s impact on me.

Like most people, high school was a strange time for me. Aside from the hormones and figuring out who I am as a person and navigating relationships and friends and all that fun stuff, I was also struggling with severe depression and anxiety. My mental illnesses caused me to miss a lot of opportunities and time. I honestly don’t remember large chunks of that period, but one thing I do remember is Buffy.

Review: Grass Kings #1

By Reboot

“Welcome to the Grass Kingdom. Where fools like you come to get their asses kicked.”

Reboot here again. Back so soon, I know. I’m a pretty big Matt Kindt fan though, so when I heard that he was writing a new comic, Grass Kings, at BOOM! Studios with Tyler Jenkins illustrating and Jim Campbell lettering, I wanted to review the first issue of this six part miniseries. Lucky for me [insertgeekhere] got a review copy. Get ready for some reviewing!

Review: Lumberjanes/Gotham Academy Trade!

By Reboot

Courtesy of BOOM! Studios
Hey everyone! Reboot here again. It's been a little while since I reviewed a trade paperback collection and what better way to jump back into that than with the big Lumberjanes/Gotham Academy cross-over from BOOM! Studios with DC Comics collecting issues #1 - 6!

Before I jump into it, there are quite a lot of names that should be mentioned so let's start with that. This limited series now collected in a trade paperback was written by Chynna Clugston Flores, penciled by Rosemary Valero-O'Connell, Kelly Matthews and Nicole Matthews, inked by Maddi Gonzalez and Jenna Ayoub, colored by Whitney Cogar, and lettered by Warren Montgomery.Lumberjanes was created by Shannon WattersGrace EllisNoelle Stevenson, and Brooke Allen.Gotham Academy was created by Becky CloonanBrenden Fletcher, and Karl Kerschl. While other people were also involved in bringing this book to life, this is the bare minimum number list of names of those who should be acknowledged before I continue.

Get Your Hands on a Tiny Groot!

Nope, this isn't a joke! You can get your hands on that tiny but powerful tree thanks to Entertainment Earth. That's right, next up in their line of Pin Mates is the weirdest collection of heroes anywhere, Guardians of the Galaxy! The whole team jumps off the movie screen and can easily hang out in your home.  But really, it's all about Groot.  Best part is that all the Pin Mates are completely wooden, so this Groot is actually a tree.  Well, sorta.

The Official Iron Fist Trailer is Here!

It's here! And OMG!

I haven't really been paying much attention to what's been going on with Iron Fist, because I don't know the character very well. I just knew I was going to watch it because of how strong Daredevil, Jessica Jones, and Luke Cage have been. I was wrong. I should have been paying more attention. I need to know more. March 17th can't get here soon enough.
